Doidge, Miss Mary Margaret, Saginaw, Michigan. Passed away Friday, May 12, 2006 at her home. Age 94 years. A long-time Arthur Hill High School teacher and counselor, Mary Margaret Doidge was born January 23. 1912 in Saginaw, the daughter of Ernest H. and Maude (Detcher) Doidge and was a lifelong resident of Saginaw. She was retired from teaching in 1968 after 43 three years of teaching. She received her B.A. from Michigan State University and a Masters in Education from the University of Michigan. She also did post graduate work at the University of Wisconsin and Central Michigan University.

She was a member of Ames Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir, the Sunday school, the Epworth League and in girls' basketball. She was a pioneer in the field of girls' and women's sports in Saginaw, especially basketball and tennis. She taught girl's physical education at Arthur Hill High School for many years. 'Miss Doidge' leaves behind generations of Arthur Hill women graduates who benefited from her sage advice between 1935 and 1960. She was a member of the Michigan teacher unions. She traveled extensively both in the U.S. and internationally in her retirement.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine M. Picard, of Saginaw and a brother Alan Doidge of Midland. She is survived by her brother, Ernest, (Saginaw), and six nieces and nephews, David Doidge, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, James Doidge of Stanley, North Carolina, Ruth Anne Rape, Columbus, Indiana, Mary M. Sarle, Kalamazoo, Michigan, James V. Picard, Paw Paw, Michigan and Louis A. Picard, Washington D.C.

Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Rev. Mark A. Karls will officiate with entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
