HERZLER, Oliver, Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence at the age of 88 years. Oliver was born on September 19, 1923 to the late Oliver and Vera (Schmidt) Herzler in Belleville, Illinois. He married Mary E. Shipman on April 28, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. Oliver served with the U.S. Navy as a signal man on the U.S.S. Louisville during World War II.

Oliver graduated from Central Michigan University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. He was the principal of Gladwin High School before becoming a teacher and a counselor at Arthur Hill High School. Oliver retired from the Saginaw Public School System in 1984. He belonged to Veteran organizations as well as fraternal organizations. He was a lifelong member of the National Education Association. He belonged to the Michigan and Saginaw Associations for Retired Teachers. Oliver was a member of Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife Mary; two sons and their spouses: Dr. Gary and Ann Herzler, Kewadin, MI, Dr. Greg and Maryann Herzler, Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren: Cory (Jeff) Haeberle, Rockford, MI, Molly and John Herzler, Saginaw, MI; three great - grandchildren: Oliver, Marley and Charlie Haeberle, Rockford, MI, and a sister: Virginia Nolte, St. Louis, MO.

Following Oliver's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family Memorial Service is planned. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church, 612 Millard St., Saginaw, MI 48607.
