Robert M. Carlyon 10/3/1939 - 8/19/2022  Romeo, MI   Robert M. Carlyon, beloved father and grandfather, passed away August 19, 2022, after long suffering the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Bob was born in Negaunee, MI, on October 3, 1939, to Domenica (nee Torreano) and Edward W. Carlyon.

He earned his teaching degree from Northern Michigan University, and moved to Saginaw in 1963. He met Maureen R. Miller in Saginaw, and they married in 1965 at St. Mary's Cathedral. Maureen predeceased him in 2014. Bob loved teaching and spent almost his entire career at what was South Intermediate School. He truly enjoyed young teens and felt lucky to explore a variety of subjects alongside his students. His career spanned metal and wood shop, print shop, photography, drafting, technology such as CAD and bridge design, and mathematics. Bob also worked many years in after school sports running the basketball clock and assistant coaching track. Many of Bob's and the family's friends were South teachers and their families. After 35 years of teaching, Bob retired from the Saginaw Public Schools in 1999.

After his retirement, Bob became interested in flight and became a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. A Carmen Park friend encouraged his involvement and the two built and flew a kit plane on many short, and a few long adventures. Others may remember his love of animals and his devotion to feeding his backyard squirrels.

Bob leaves behind his children, Patricia (Stephen) Gingras, Elk River, MN; Christine (Richard) Meldrum, Addison Township, MI; Timothy (Melissa) Carlyon, Syracuse, Ohio; five grandchildren, Katherine and Gabrielle Gingras, Annabelle and Robert Meldrum, and Timothy's stepson, Jacob Monn; two brothers, Keith (Susan) Carlyon of Traverse City, and Stanley Carlyon of Kenosha, WI, and a sister-in-law, Edith Carlyon, Cheyenne, WY, and many nieces and nephews. He also fondly remembers his Carmen Park and St. Stephen's friends. Both parents and a brother, Neil A. Carlyon of Cheyenne, WY, predeceased him.

Bob and Maureen were longtime members of St. Stephen Parish (now St. Dominic's Parish, St. Stephen's Church). The family will hold a Funeral Mass at St Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion, August 26, at 11 am. Visitation begins at 10:30 am. Burial will be at a later date in Negaunee, MI. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Stephen's Church (St. Dominic's Parish), the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, or a local animal shelter.
