Ilah Huyghe

Ilah Huyghe

Ilah Huyghe   (1st Grade - South Elementary School)
1918 - 2017

Ilah L. Huyghe of Saginaw, MI Quietly passed away Wednesday at Brookdale Senior Living in Saginaw a few hours away from celebrating her 99th birthday. Ilah loved being an elementary school teacher and practiced that skill for over 27 years at Buena Vista, Unionville, Webber, Jerome, Loomis, Jesse Rouse and South Elementary Schools positively influencing the lives of countless students. Ilah was President of the Women's Farm and Garden Club, President for the Germania 9 hole Golf League, member of the First Presbyterian Church, the First Congregational Church and the University of Michigan Alumni Club. She made many knitted projects for the Assistance League. Ilah was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was an avid reader, bridge player, golfer and gardener, and was well loved by many. Well into her 80's Mom's love for the piano was not a secret. If there was a party, a need for someone to play for functions, a cause for Christmas carols, she never hesitated. In her later years Ilah spent time in Manistee Michigan and Naples Florida until a devastating fall in Naples took the rest of her memory.

Her final years were spent in the excellent care of the staff of Clair Bridge Cottage Memory Care nursing home. Her husband of 53 years, Oscar B. Huyghe, their infant daughter Julia, preceded her in death as did her parents Isaac and Myrtle Parker, her sister Alleseba Winkler and her second husband, David Galonska. She is survived by her children Mary Ann Cheney Mix (David, Mix), Linda McHie (John Anderson), grandchildren: Grant Cheney (Josie), Guy Cheney, Kristin Cheney, James E. McHie Jr. (Amy). Jessica McHie (Manne Blanco) and several great grandchildren.

Funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Chaplain Tim Bender will officiate with entombment later at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Donations in Ilah's memory be made to the Oscar B. Huyghe Scholarship at Heritage High School, (originated by the Douglas McArthur High School Boosters club) or to the Women's Farm and Garden Club of Saginaw, or American Home Health and Hospice.
